WE SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITY
The Pittsburgh Guitars Musical Education Scholarship Fund
On June 30, 2012, at Big Beatles Show #10, we announced the creation of the Pittsburgh Guitars Musical Education Scholarship Fund, created to assist us in giving back to the community that is so supportive of our store.
The fund will support a music outreach program that awards guitar scholarships for lessons here at Pittsburgh Guitars, with the goal of teaching and/or enhancing students' basic knowledge and understanding of the guitar. Some of the winners will be kids who would not have otherwise have the opportunity to take lessons. Our longer-term goals include providing instruments, lesson books, and reaching as many future young musicians as possible, as well as establishing a non-profit foundation.
For our first project, we held an essay contest this spring for middle and high-school students in the Pittsburgh area. The topic of the essay was "How do you best express your passion and interest for music?" The winners were awarded 8 1/2-hour lessons, and the use of a guitar for the lesson period. We were surprised and excited by the level of creativity in the entries we received, and have signed up 4 of the winners for lessons already!
Big Beatles Show #10 was the first event we hold in support of the fund. The Beatles Show gives students and many local musicians the chance to come together on a big stage with the music so many of us love. We look forward to many more events, more community involvement, and more ways of returning the support we enjoy every day.
